GENERAL SKILLED MIGRATION (GSM) VISA

If you are skilled in certain occupations with proficient/ advanced English, you can consider general skilled migration program. This is based on point test and nominated by Australian States/ Territory. 
There are four visa options available.
  • 189 Visa – Skilled Independent
  • 190 Visa – State Nomination
  • 491 Visa – Skilled Work Regional
  • 191 Visa – Skilled Regional Permanent Residence.    

The minimum points of 65 points is required at the moment. We will update any change from the Department of Home Affairs.

SKILLED INDPENDENT VISA - SUBCLASS 189

Purpose:

This visa is for points-tested skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member or nominated by a state or territory government.
It allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.

Prerequisite:

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if invited. When we sent your letter of invitation, you must also have:

  • nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • obtained a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
  • not yet turned 45 years of age
  • achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test
  • at least Competent English.

STATE NOMINATION VISA - SUBCLASS 190

Purpose:

This visa is for points-tested skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory government agency.

It allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.

Prerequisite:

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if you were invited. When Australian immigration sent your letter of invitation, you must also have:

  • nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • obtained a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
  • not yet turned 45 years of age
  • achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test
  • at least competent English (but we advise you try to get Higher English points)
  • been nominated by an Australian state or territory.

SKILLED WORK REGIONAL (PROVISIONAL) VISA - SUBCLASS 491

Purpose:

This visa allows skilled workers to live and work in specified regional areas in Australia for up to five years.

Prerequisite:

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if invited. When Australian immigration sent your letter of invitation, you must also have:

  • been nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency or sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area
  • nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupations list
  • a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
  • not yet turned 45 years of age
  • achieved at least the score of 65 in the points test (including state nomination score)
  • at least competent English.

Moreover, with extended stay pathway, you can also apply for this visa if you hold a visa in subclass 485, 407, 500.

PERMANENT RESIDENCE VISA (SKILLED REGIONAL) - SUBCLASS 191

Purpose:

This allows visa holders (subclass 491) to live and work in Australia permanently.

Prerequisite:

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if fulfiilled to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia in at least 3 years and you MUST have:

  • complied with the conditions of visa​ subclass 491
  • had Notice of Assessment from ATO for at least 3 years
  • met the required health check for children (if any).
