482 Visa Change from July 2026

Australia will introduce a new salary threshold for 482 visa from 1 July 2026, impacting thousands of employers and skilled migrants. This update is part of the Government’s annual indexation of employer‑sponsored visa income requirements.

If you are planning to apply for 482 visa, it is essential to understand for maintaining eligibility and avoiding delays.

What Is New 482 Visa Salary Threshold for 2026–27?

From 1 July 2026, the minimum salary requirements for 482 visa will increase to: $79,499 (core skills) and $146,717 (Specialist Skills)

These figures are calculated using the ABS Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) data and are part of the Government’s automatic annual indexation process.

Why Is 482 Visa Salary Threshold Increasing?

The Australian Government adjusts employer‑sponsored visa salary requirements each year to:

  • Reflect national wage growth
  • Protect local labour market standards
  • Ensure sponsored workers are paid fairly
  • Support a more skilled, higher‑paid migration program

This increase is not optional — it is required under Migration Regulation 5.42A, making the July 2026 update official.

Who Will Be Affected by the July 2026 Salary Increase?

The new salary thresholds apply to:

  • 482 visa
  • 186  visa
  • 494  visa

Importantly:

✔️ The new thresholds apply only to 482 visa nominations lodged on or after 1 July 2026

✔️ Lodgements before 30 June 2026 will use the current salary settings

This timing is critical for both employers and applicants.
