Business Owner Visa Subclass 890 (Only valid for the applications before March 21, 2025)

National Innovation Visa (NIV) Subclass 858
This visa was launched in December 2024 replacing the previous Global Talent and Business Innovation & Investment visas, aiming to attract top-tier professionals who can drive innovation and contribute significantly to Australia’s economy.
**Key Features
- Permanent Residency: Grants indefinite stay, work, and study rights in Australia

No Age Limit: Open to applicants of all ages

Flexible English Requirements: Applicants with less than functional English can opt to pay a second Visa Application Charge (VAC) instead of meeting language proficiency criteria

No Occupation Restrictions: Available to individuals across various sectors, provided they meet the achievement criteria

Family Inclusion: Allows inclusion of eligible family members in the application
** Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the NIV, applicants must:

Demonstrate Exceptional Achievement: Possess an internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, sport, the arts, academia, or research

Receive an Invitation: Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and be invited by the Minister to apply for the visa

Obtain Nomination: Be nominated by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen, or Australian organization with a national reputation in the applicant’s area of talent
**Priority Sectors
The NIV prioritizes applicants contributing to:

Tier One Sectors: Critical Technologies, Health Industries, Renewables and Low Emission Technologies

Tier Two Sectors: Agri-food and AgTech, Defence Capabilities and Space, Education, Financial Services and FinTech, Infrastructure and Transport, Resources

BUSINESS OWNER VISA SUBCLASS 890 (Lodgement before 21 March 2025): For individuals who own and manage a business in Australia for at least 2 years and hold a qualifying visa.
INVESTOR VISA SUBCLASS 891 (Lodgement before 21 March 2025): For individuals who have held a designated investment of AUD 1.5 million for four years and have lived in Australia for at least two of the past four years.
NATIONAL INNOVATION VISA (NIV) SUBCLASS 858: For individuals with exceptional talent and internationally recognized achievements. This visa replaces the previous Global Talent and Business Innovation & Investment visas. EOI registrations are open in NSW and South Australia.
